What is The Salon?
A salon is a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation. The Salon, in its current iteration in Guangzhou, founded by Ariana Lombardi, is an ever-changing, growing, moving and morphing art happening. It is organized and produced by Ariana Lombardi (Home is a Lonely Hunter) and Mister Rowley (Thy Worthy Soul, AWOR NY) and aims to be a platform for creating and fostering the connectivity of a global community of artists, thinkers and doers.
What happens at The Salon?
The idea of the Salon is simple: set a time and place and invite people to show up and share their art and ideas. Salon attendees are invited to either be present to or present works of art and/or ideas based around a chosen theme. Salons range from interactive and collaborative initiatives, like “The Silent Conversation”, live-photography, video and painting installations, poetry, music or site-specific performances. At a typical salon you can find foreign and local people meeting, networking, talking and exchanging ideas spurred by art and one another.
Where does the Salon take place?
The Salon does not have a specific home. It happens in the style of popup performances and gatherings. The Salon has been happening around Guangzhou at bars, cafes such as Loft345 and CA1 and in public spaces such as The Pearl River banks or the steps of the Guangzhou Opera House.
How can you get involved?
Above all else, you should really just come to a Salon. Truly, the best way to get involved is to show up and connect with the community.
